ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL
(SOCCER)
A ball game which developed from the Engish public-school games of the early 19th c. and is now
played in most countries of the world. The is contested by 2 teams of 11 players, on a field about 115 yds long and
75 yds wide. Players in each team combine to propel the ball with thier feet or heads into a
space known as the goal. There are 2 goals-one at each end of the field-and each is defended
by ome team. The winning side is that which gets the ball more frequently into the opposing goal.
